External Counter Pulsation

New concept in cardiology
The concept of counter pulsation is not new (it was first introduced in the late 1950s at Harvard), but the computerized technology currently available with ECP makes it a new procedure, introduced less than 10 years ago.
ECP is used for treatment of patients with chronic stable & unstable angina, coronary artery disease. Most recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also approved ECP therapy for treatment of congestive heart failure.
Follow up studies of patients treated by
1. Angioplasty
2. Bypass Surgery
3. E C P (external counter pulsation)
Show equal five year survival reports.
ECP being purely non invasive technique scores more over Angioplasty and Bypass surgery.
Revise Angioplasty & Bypass Surgery is not easily practicable after five years but ECP therapy can be repeated without any difficulty.

Note: Insurance and Medicare providers in USA have approved ECP treatment for reimbursement. More than three Lac rupees are reimbursed for 35 hour therapy.
