Motorway is now safe, but check, and if you are nervous there are many flights a day between the two cities, some of which go directly to the city centre airport (Aires I believe and one other), otherwise they fly to Rionegro, but then the journey down the valley to the city is STUNNING! Medellin also has great connections in small planes to Nuqui and Capurgana in el Choco, fantastic beach experiences, as well as pretty much anywhere else in the country. Just go and enjoy it - you'll love it!!

Hey Mr. Welshegg. Both cities are great, and Bogota has a beaurtiful colonial centre, but Medellin has the best climate and some gorgeous places to visit nearby (tropical colonial town Santa Fe de Antioquia, for example), and is an amazing city in itself - great bars, restaurants and public sculptures, surrounded by mountains very green. Security is supposed to be much better now, and Med is now one of the safest cities in SA. Road travel by night probably a very bad idea. I believe the Med-Bog

All I have to say is I love Medellin, is my second home in Colombia, I've been in some other places and I ust love this one more than any other... I say s my second home because the first is the city I was born and raised, Monteria... And, I agree with the people thing, Bogota is cold because of the people even more than for the weather, and Cali is a caotic city, and is not safe, Bogota, is even less safe, and Medellín is an example for the world about Social and Urban Recovery...

Saludo Cordial. Soy de Medellin y he pasado los ultimos 5 Años fuera de mi ciudad natal. en este tiempo he viajado cada año de visita y me encuentro cada vez con unos paisas cada vez mas agresivos.
