An Andrew Kerth original, written July 21, 1999 and recorded December 6, 2009.

I decided to get all dressed-up for this one.

Guitar is a Harmony H64, which was a double-cutaway, twin-pickup, Bigsby-equipped thinline archtop made in Chicago from 1967 through 1970. Amp is a Peavey Delta Blues with single 15-inch speaker. I love this setup.

(Lyrics below)

There's a girl I've got to see

Out on Highway Thirty-Three

She stole my heart away and that's the truth

She's got style and she's got grace

And she puts me in my place

When she seats me at my favorite booth

She's a waitress at the Blue Plate

And she gets off work about eight

I said I'd pick her up when she was free

She's been waitin' on those tables

But she'll leave when she is able

And she won't have to wait on me

'Cause I'll be standing by the back door

And I will take her out in style

She'll get anything she asks for

And I will give her service with a smile

Down at the Blue Plate Diner

You won't find any finer

She'll pour you the best coffee in the land

She'll take those orders of yours

Just like I will take hers

She's got me eating out of her hand

And I'll be standing by the back door

And I will take her out in style

She'll get anything she asks for

And I will give her service with a smile

There's a girl I've got to see

Out on Highway Thirty-Three

I said I'd pick her up when she was free

She's been waitin' on those tables

But she'll leave when she is able

And she won't have to wait on me

No, she won't have to wait on me

  • Well, Andrew, this is brilliant.

Somewhere between Tex Williams and Bob Wills (Western Swing), and a German guy you won't know, who's called Stefan Gwildis and does excellent blues-jazz music.

Anyways, you've got a great, great vibe going, and it's a good one to relax!

  • Danke schön, mein herr.

It's a fun one to play.

  • Great job! Super songwriting!

  • Thank you.

I had a hard time trying to learn Western Swing cover tunes, so I figured I'd have better luck just writing one of my own.

    (Only partly kidding)

  • That kicks ass

    love the 'fence stretcher'

  • Paul Bigsby should receive a knighthood.

Or at least a half-price refill on his coffee.

    Thanks, man.

  • Lookin' Good!!! Soundin' Good!!!

  • So, the song is "well-done" and I'm "rare", then?

    *groan*

    Thanks for the compliment.

  • Someone once referred to Western Swing as "dressing up like a cowboy and playing jazz chords to a polka beat".

It just would have been WRONG in a T-shirt.

    Thanks.

  • This is a great song, I really love it. You look good, too, glad you went all out for this one.

  • Well done! Haven't seen you for a while.
