@Annfontanella Thanks for responding! It's inspiring when top players are generous enough to help out beginners. Looks like I should be more open minded about the wrist position and see if you approach works for me. I'm certainly far from mastering this bow hold at the frog, so anything that helps would be welcome :-)
@tullochgorum , For me, it seems to give me more control over the pressure on the string in that area. I know that not everyone does that! But if you look at the Leopold Auer teaching books, you'll actually see in several of the photos that he demonstrates frog position with a slightly elevated wrist....
Trying to teach myself the Heifetz/Flesch bow arm - good to see a new generation of players still using it! Seems as though the influence of Galamian & Suzuki have led to its neglect? To me it makes a lot of mechanical sense when it come to transmitting weight efficiently to the string. My question: compared to others, you seem to be using quite a high wrist at the frog. What is the thinking behind that? I've been working to try and keep my wrist as flat as possible, Milstein style...
