One of the first riffs I learned was the single-note section after the intro staccato from RUSH's 2112 Overture, so when I wanted to teach my dogs how to sing I used that riff as supporting stimuli. Well, dogs being as smart as they are with repetition, over time they began to sing to the BEGINNING of the song because they learned it would always precede the intended stimuli. Soon, they were singing along to the CD without me even playing guitar!! I can be cruising down the road and not say a thing and if this song comes on they go off by themselves as you see here and the same thing happens at home and during cool demonstrations for other RUSH fans. Pavlov would be proud, not sure about Ayn Rand..lol!!!

  • If there's a single YouTube videos the guys from Rush would ever actually watch, this would be it.

  • @bellbrass - thank you very much for that comment. it's a shame i never got to make a video intended for youtube that would have been a better representation of the conditioning. i keep putting off doing so with the surviving cocker spaniel. nonetheless, i believe a certain crew member may have mentioned it and perhaps it did spark their intellectual curiosity enough to have a look. it would quite a novel phenomenon for any artist to see, let alone a band like RUSH who appeal to intellect.

  • @bellbrass - one other thing... the cocker was along for the 13 show swing finishing the Time Machine tour, usually she stayed at the motel, but weather conditions were perfect for her to come along to the San Diego show and she was in the parking lot with the windows partially open. i am CERTAIN she was singing along when the band played Overture!! I would love to make a video of her singing directly to the band playing live!! now THAT'S one they may want to see lol!!

  • by the way it's eh, not hey, if your going to rip off Canada DO IT RIGHT

haha just kidding funny video too...

  • @ACDC123459 - ha!! not sure where you're hearing the "H" dude!?!?! i know the 'eh? for sure, once was talking to a truck driver at a 401 rest area and had a 3 minute conversation with this guy in mcdonald's and the only word he used the whole time was.... you guessed it!!!

  • How did you condition them to sing?

  • @JHellman - When I would coax them to sing, I would play the single note riff on guitar every time. Once they were accustomed to that stimulus and reward for singing, they learned over time that the riff would be coming after the intro to the song that precedes it and began singing earlier and earlier in the song, as well as when I wasn't even playing guitar (as shown). Dogs know their environment, you know, they really don't have much else to do most of the time except observe...lol!!
