  • I'm a big of the Producer Ed Cobb...He had big hits with his first group The Four Preps [Including the #1 '25 Miles'[Santa Catalina]. He also Wrote Tainted love [Gloria Jones, Soft Cell] and 'Dirty Water'. Great version of 'Live' BTW.

  • Yeah, Ed was a great talent....and a great guy to work with. A very professionl guy.

  • @etypebob Are you sure this is November 1966.........Merry Go Round's version wasn't released until March of '67?

  • @blownmynd Yes I'm certain it was I have the track sheet from those sessions. Ed Cobb had the song on a demo tape. And the song was just that, a demo . . . not even finished at the time we heard it. Even though Emitt had written the song, The Merry Go Round had not recorded it yet. We were the first band to record it.

  • Very nice!

Now do you have audio of you guys doing "Pretty Ballerina"?

  • We didn't do that one. That song was by The Left Banke.

  • I like both versions. They just have a different interpretaions; different elements of the the tune are emphasized; nevertheless cool both ways. And big props to Ed Cobb and the groups. They made some really cool music back in the '60s. Great bands from Salinas and San Jose they made some great garage and pop music.

  • Nice effort, but it's missing an important element that made the Merry-Go-Round's version the definitive one. That element was those tasty lead guitar riffs that playfully danced in between & around the vocals. It was the hook that cemented this great song in the original version, & it is missing here.

  • Nice, but The Merry Go Round has the best version. Can make me cry. This one doesn't make me cry.Good though.

  • Love this song...

  • Thank you for sharing! I didn't know that The Bangles recorded this song back in the 1980's. I love these photos! Thank you for sharing Bob!!!

  • The Bangles did a cover to this back in the 80's..... check it on itunes.
