What we have here is a RF-101, the "R" is for the recon version. If this was indeed taken in 63, I would have interpreted this pilots mission film, I was assigned as a photo-interpreter there. Originally the unit was known as ABLE MABLE, then changed to 13TRS. Along with the RF-101 we had RB57's, RB-26's, an ARVIN RC-47 and RT-28. A most interesting time!!!

CVKent....I think the top speed for the Voodoo was around 1200mph if I remember...neat aircraft.I've always loved the Century Series.....

So... the F-101 served the same purpose as the F-104 did in Vietnam? As a reconnaisance aircraft? How interesting.

@isplsi1032 I am a model maker and pics of AC are gold to me. If you have any and all pics of AC such as you mention (military) please message me as I would like to figue out a way to take a look at some of them. I am mostly interested in unusual camouflages and close up pics of aircraft, interior shots, cockpits, revetments, bunkers, ground equipment, etc.
Show me a pic of a plane and I will ID it for you by the way.

@isplsi1032 the a-1 skyraider I think.

It's not hard to see how that evolved into the F-4 Phantom.

@isplsi1032 A-1 (AD) Skyraider

voodoo pilots where the first ones to get 100 missions over north vietnam

this was great to see! My old man was a jet mech on RF-101Cs when his squadron deployed in 66 to Tan Son Nhut.

@isplsi1032 The single prop ac may have been a "Spad": A Douglas AD Skyraider acquired by the USAAF for tactical recon and close air support.
I have been gathering images of USAF aircraft used in Vietnam in the pre-camouflage era so this footage really helps. From what I've read, the RF-101's were the first USAF type in theatre and also the fastest in theatre.

@MusicMadMaurice I have pictures of ( if I can find them) of F102s , B57s, and B26s on the ground in Viet Nam. There also was a large single engine single seat prop plane which I don't know the name.
Also C47,C123, C124 , C130, C133

Did they ever use F-101s for anything other than recon in Vietnam? Been wanting to ask that for quite some time.

@336kgf Not that I know of. These 101S had no guns of any sort. I can imagine something hung on the drop tank pads, but i never saw or heard of any such thing. The 101B had a revolving door under the cockpit for air to air missiles.I never heard of any B models in Nam. I left Nam in late 1963. (1964???).
