R.C. Sproul & R.C. Sproul, Jr. discuss the topic of Abortion—its place in the culture, in the church, and where it has come since the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. They discuss what they believe the church should do about Abortion and how they feel the church can make an impact to protect unborn children. Dr. Sproul's book, Abortion: A Rational Look at an Emotional Issue is being re-released 20 years after the original edition.

This is the short version. See the full length version of the discussion at http://vimeo.com/18468741, and find out more about the book at http://www.reformationtrust.com.

  • @666Infantryman I think now it'd be impossible to rule out one or the other. To consciously rule out science just seems as if one is asking for madness to occur in ones thinking. To rule out philosophy, is itself a "philosophy" thus this idea is self refuting.

However science only allows us to better understand things that are part of the material universe. But can tell us nothing about how it got there, why it is rather than not, is there a purpose, what is morality, etc.

  • @666Infantryman That's fine...I understand that. But questions such as, "Does God exist?" or "Which god exists?" are not questions of intellect, nor are they scientific questions. These are philosophical questions, and one must make this distinction.

  • @666Infantryman So that's how it works? Folks who have a different perspective than you are somehow intellectually inferior? I so hope you realize one day why it's not even worth the time to even engage in dialog with someone as unpliable as you are in this case. Please don't misunderstand me, I do indeed wish you well. May God soften your heart.

  • @666Infantryman "the next moment you say the fetus has MORE rights than the mother!"

When did I say more rights? I said some individual rights are more important than other individual rights.

"it's not so clear scientifically when a fetus actually becomes a human"

If you are unclear on if abortion is murder, the responsible decision would be to side with life. You don't demolish a building unless you're certain no one's inside. You don't commit abortion unless you're certain no one is inside

  • @666Infantryman "You are actually putting the rights of the fetus HIGHER than that of the mothers!"

Again, which rights am I putting in front of the other. The right of the child TO LIVE or the right of a mother to TERMINATE A PREGNANCY which was the result of consensual sex. Which right is more important? Don't you believe some rights take preeminence over others? It's like choosing between breaking someone's arm or shooting them in the head. If a choice has to be made, the answer is obvious.

  • @666Infantryman "Now u are really mixing apples and oranges. These things u listed are crimes and abortion isn't by the laws of the land."

You were claiming that abortion will always exist so it should be legal, I was pointing out how illogical that is.

Segregation was also once the law of the land, so I guess you would be telling Dr. King to not march and fight for his rights as well.

"so let man's law be mans and gods be gods"

Have I appealed to God? Only you keep bringing Him up.

  • @666Infantryman "how do you come away that abortion at ANY stage of development is murder and that it;s right actually trump the living breathing mother that is carrying it if not by a black and white religious belief?"

The unborn child is a innocent, living, human. If a decision has to be made between a child having the right to live or a mother having the right to terminate a pregnancy (which was the result of consensual sex), the weight would clearly favor that of the child.

  • @666Infantryman "but I'd really wish people like you would adhere to the separation of church and state"

Again, when have I appealed to religion? You're the only one bringing up the church/Bible. Maybe your more comfortable attacking straw men rather than actual arguments, if that is the case, don't reply to my comments which actually make arguments.

"abortion will never go away, whether it's done illegally, legally"

Neither will, murder, rape, or theft, but does that justify legalizing them?

  • @666Infantryman "but then you make exceptions for a rape victim? So you don't believe this is still murder? "

I can see both sides of the issue when it comes to abortion for rape victims. It is still murder, but having to put a woman through the trauma of delivering the child of her rapist may be too much for any woman to handle. It's similar to the health of the mother issue.

Again, pointing to rape is just an emotional appeal to avoid the larger issue of abortion on demand which must end.

  • @666Infantryman "Do you believe that a 1 week old fetus is a human? Science doesn't say this"

Really? How so? The entity inside of a mother's womb is living and has it's own, unique human DNA. It has a beating heart, brain activity, it can feel pain. The facts speak for themselves. I don't need to appeal to religion.

It is only a near 40 year old decision by the supreme court that has said a fetus is not human.
