CARMEL, Ind. — Angst and anger over a pending divorce may have led to a probable murder-suicide Tuesday morning that left two people dead in a condominium in an upscale neighborhood.
Police believe Aaron Saunders cq, 46, a real-estate broker and former youth center director, turned a gun on himself, after first shooting his estranged wife, Suzanne Saunders cq, 50. Three children were in the home at the time of the shootings but were not hurt.
Suzanne Saunders had filed for divorce in August, court records show, and just last week, a Hamilton County judge set a June 12 hearing for final dissolution of the marriage.
Such high-stress events as the breakup of a marriage sometimes trigger irrational acts, said a family counselor unacquainted with the Saunders.
