Its No Fun Not to Like Pop. (Krantz Carlock Lefebvre)
Abstract Logix 2009

The boldly inventive improvisations of guitarist Wayne Krantz have long held a fascination for fans of dynamic, uncompromised music. Ex-Sideman with Steely Dan, Donald Fagen, Michael Brecker , Billy Cobham and many others, Krantz has focused on live performance for nearly two decades, holding down a residency at New York Citys 55 Bar. Now, with Krantz Carlock Lefebvre, he is returning to a recording studio to document his own music for the first time in over fifteen years .

Krantz Carlock Lefebvre features Krantz as one-third of a longstanding trio that also includes virtuoso drummer Keith Carlock (Sting, Steely Dan, James Taylor) and bassist extraordinaire Tim Lefebvre (Chris Botti, Uri Caine), which was first convened in 1997. Giving this band a voice in the context of a studio is a big deal for us, Krantz says. Everything weve ever released together has been some kind of live album. Now we have the clarity and concision of the studio along for the ride. Cut live in the studio and then augmented by overdubs, the result is Krantzs most personal statement yet, more strongly rooted in composition while still rich with the improvisational nuances that make his live performances so riveting. Get ready for one of strongest musical statement of the year.

  • The music is insane. It's a whole new language. I just forgot everything I thought I knew about music. I am reborn.

  • I've always felt that Wayne's albums were cool because you could just groove to them, when you want tunes, but that there are so many layers to what's going on, with so few instruments, that you can bust out the microscope and go to town as well. There aren't many people like this. It's an honor to buy this music and pay for the concerts. You're truly witnessing an artistic commitment.

    Nice music though.

  • I have entered my text there, but it didn't show up.

  • fuck I love keith carlock's bass drum sound (and everything else)

  • eso es Florida y Marcelo T de Alvear!! jaja que grosso!!

  • Despite the title's allusion, this one is somewhat poppy...in comparison with his other songs. But even this took almost 2 years till it came to me and hit the spot.(I try not to force myself if it doesn't move me at first ...let it grow for a while...) Pretty challenging & intense but very likable music if you get used to it, i should say.

  • This video f*****g SUCKS

  • I had soooo much fun watching them live at the Rose Live in Brooklyn on 2/8/11.

  • 2:25+, sooooo sick
