This is great, I'd love to see more testing with Western swords on tatami mats, to demonstrate that many of the comparatively tight cuts in WMA are just as effective as the thumping great thwacks you see untrained users make.

Very good work. Iam fencing also the deutsche Schule and your cuts are very impressive. Good example for showing that western martial arts are no clumsy hack n slash actions. thank you for your vid.

There are a lot of cutting tests on youtube, but you show good control and posture. Grandmaster Liechtenauer would be pleased.

Ignore the twelve-year old trolls. Those are some well-executed cuts. They look nice and relaxed.

@slapmagnit Thank you. This is a very old video and I cringe when I watch it. :)

question. which source states the mittelhau is from the hip? O.o I ive read sources that say it is like a horizontal cut from the shoulder. The middle guard beung at the shoulder also alludes to this as well. guess its a variation?

@IaMaPh1991 The sources we use, Ringeck and 44A8 (Von Danzig) do not mention mittlehau at all. I do not believe all sources describe the same way of doing things, that would be a ridiculous assumption considering they span over 2 centuries and many regions. However the sources do mention that they are for people who already know how to fence, so we should not expect such details. The mittlehau as executed is based on very practical considerations based on human anatomy and period clothing.

It is a bit hard to se in the video for me, do you strike with the "false/short" or the "true/long" edge in your krumphau ?
skink84 3 months ago
@skink84 long edge from the right, short edge from the left. I don't think I do a left krumphau in this vid though.
