@kimbrgsm1 Great advice and vid Tx

but doesn't lifting the chest while doing advanced hip movements or layering shimmies help by "releasing" the hips a bit???...at times i find lifting my chest helps me isolate movements better...for example, when I'm trying to shimmy my hips while doing a chest undulation (chest roll/upperbody undulation) if I don't lift my chest I feel compacted and can't get the 2 individual moves to work...PLEASE ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME :D

I knew there had to be a secret to layering shimmies!!! Thanks soooo much!! Please give us more, you are my favorite you tube instructor. Do you have DVD lessons for sale? You are awsome!

@coccoealessia try practicing the move with a metronome - you can find them free online.- instead of music. that way your body is learning to keep the beat .

Nice but one should never teach students to move the hips by using the legs. The hips don't move because the knees move, knees move because hips are. Use the glut muscles, not legs. Technique will be compromised, otherwise. Constructive criticism, no harm meant. Otherwise, very nice!

@Helena1318 there are some old school teachers that use "pumping action" from the knees. it is not wrong, it is just different. i have personally changed my style to protect my knees. but this is the way i was taught by numerous teachers and they are still dancing today with no problems.

Your knees should not be what you rely on for movement. You should be focusing on contracting you butt cheeks :)

it really depends on what kind of shimmy you are shooting for - it is perfectly acceptable to use just the knees for a soft shimmy, use the gluts (butt muscle) for a more intense one, involve the quads (front of the thighs) butt and knees for a bigger shimmy, allow a bounce to the heel to the super intense shimmy. its all about layering and what you desire the final look to be.
