As usual, the original air filter does not prove best air flow, same thing on mopeds and cars.

@MikkoMuhis my vespa has a stock air filter and its literally just a wire mesh box that stops larger debris entering the cylinder (this has actually caused problems with my jets getting blocked up). my vespa is from the sportier range (T5) and it actually has a nickel plated barrel as standard. My freind has been running his lambratta GP200 with TS1 225 kit for 7000 miles without an air filter and he is still problem free. I do kind of agree with your saying though.

@MikkoMuhis Almost all tuned lambrettas dont use air filters and there cylinders have most likely got a nickel plated barrel. In england there also isnt that much dust or debris on the roads (there probably is in italy though).

ps. it seems very poor when running without air filter, like you would not have enough money to buy one.. There are very nice power air filters which won't effect much into air flow.

wrong, without air filter engine eats all shit which moves in the air. ..raining water and water on ground when other vehicles caused them to jump into air, dust, even small rocks can fly into cylinder.. It is just stupid to use engine without filter.

My friend in old times used moped without air filter.. Couple months and the cylinder and pistons were very scratchy and not usable.

..and on 2-stroke engines not only cylinder dies, also bearings gets dust etc into them and dies..

Power or not, the engine will eat all the dust and die fast cause not using air filter..
