  • I really hate it when people take up half of their video for starting the actual OS. Seriously...

  • Holy shit! I have the same laptop!!!!!!!!!!!! I installed Xubuntu 10.04 and I love it. Sooo much better than when I had XP running. Only problem I had was printer drivers but I was able to fix that. I am now running the KDE environment on it and it works perfectly.

  • @S0Iari I disagree. The difference between building open source and as a job, is people doing it as their job are doing it because they have to. Open source is doing it because they want to, and genuinely enjoy it in their spare time. I think Debian systems completely outclass Windows, at least for the things I do.

  • @Isaacljw42 it should start with a bunch of guys fabricating silicon chips

  • @iGarthi That's true, people are familiar with Windows and that does keep most people on it... I think Linux will always lag behind, I tried Linux and it just seems kinda like a Mac from the early 90's.

  • @iGarthi Yeah, without a doubt, open source software just develops slower in a capitalistic society because there is only loss of time when you could be making money... essentially you are punished in a monetary system for working for open source.... Windows is a much better operating system... and you throw even more money in the mix and you get Macs... so where there is financial gain is where we're going to see most progress until some day our economic system possibly changes.

  • @iGarthi As I said before, Linux isn't for everybody.

  • @iGarthi well, to each their own.

  • @upallhours9 I've connect to the internet with firefox, then I was like 'what next?' I then tried to install compiz fusion but it looks like ubuntu doesn't come pre-installed with AMD drivers. I couldn't use my WiFi card but that wasn't a problem as I had temporarily moved my computer next to the router. Compiz fusion installed successfully, started using the effects. No games, slow firefox, slow office programs. Installing applications far too difficult for me to continue using the OS. sudo? No

  • @upallhours9 Openoffice/libre office sucks, they can't be compared to MS office, you're stretching the word clone. GIMP isn't comparable to Photoshop, and Linux is an overall difficult operating system to use. No one wants to take time going through a command line interface to install programs, nor would they 'downgrade' to linux because it's free. I've checked linux ubuntu out from version 9.04(I believe), 10.04, then to the new shitty 11.10.

  • @iGarthi Linux has openoffice and libre office-clones of Microsoft office. Paint programs are available, GIMP is most popular, has a full suite of add-ons for media editing. Money would be made for packaging, and literature and/or tech support.

Linux isn't for everyone, but I say people should atleast check it out.
