The secret to becoming a concert photographer

There technically isn't one.

Bahaha, I tricked you! But here is what I have learned in the 7 months since I started shooting concerts in Seattle.

And I finally figured out how to upload higher quality videos YAY! And I cut this off really weird at the end to try to get it under 4 minutes, because lord knows people have short attention spans and don't like to watch long videos.

how do u get press passes into gigs and did u study to become a photographer?

@145beme I didn't study to become a photographer, but as far as getting press passes, I emailed several music blogs about being a contributor, and one did pick me up and they were the ones to originally organize getting passes.

@BTPhotography1 I just put on the flash for use in this video because I never use flash at shows anyway. And a friend was borrowing my 50mm f1.8.

And seeing that this was posted a year ago, I've upgraded since then - Canon 7D, 50mm f1.4, and 70-200mm f2.8.

Great tips! 100% agree with the networking part. I've made a bunch of friends doing this. Though, I'd add that once you're in, be nice to the bouncers & promoter. There have been a few times that I didn't get a pass for a show but they've let it slide.
