YORK - One person was transported to York General Hospital Monday morning, shortly before 9 a.m., after his vehicle was rear-ended by a semi.
According to the police report, both vehicles were northbound on Highway 81 when the accident occurred.
The accident report, filed by Sgt. Norm Cobb, says that Ronald Luebbe, 59, of rural York, was stopped in the east northbound lane at the intersection on the south side of the interchange. A witness and Luebbe said he was stopped, waiting for the red traffic light to turn green.
A semi, driven by Matthew Murray, of Lumsden, Saskatchewan, Canada, failed to stop at the light, striking the 1992 Chevy compact car driven by Luebbe. According to the report, Murray told investigators that as he was approaching the intersection, he "looked down and didn't see the vehicle in front of him until he saw glass flying." Murray told investigators that the accident was his fault.
Responding to the scene were the York Fire and Rescue squad and the York Police Department.
Because the two affected vehicles were able to be maneuvered to the shoulder of the highway after the collision, traffic did not have to be diverted, although it was reduced to one lane for a short amount of time, near the overpass.
It did not appear that Luebbe's injuries were life threatening.
There was $1,500 damage to the semi, with the Luebbe vehicle listed as "totaled."
You ask me Truckers should pay a high tax revenue for all the accidents. I was hit twice by a trucker. One time walking. My dad's a fed and trucker a bit jelous. Most Highway accidents are becuase a trucker can't handle it's sit down job.
