For the sake of completeness I thought I would upload a quick video of the earliest working version of the prototype, before any of the graphics were in (except for some tiles).
Personally I'm not a big fan of abstract placeholder graphics because I feel when it comes to movement, visual feedback is a big part of how the gameplay feels and you make different decisions with boxes than you do with moving characters. I think this look is fine for getting basic functionality in, but it's pretty useless for tuning...
I switched to character sprites as soon as I could. (see next version)
