I hate it when Hollywood remakes old TV shows, because they usually don't get what made it good or take it WAY too seriously.
That being said, if you want to make a good remake, you can either make it faithful (ie "Get Smart," "The Beverly Hillbillies") or you can make it tongue-in-cheek ("The Brady Bunch").
"21 Jump Street" looks to be doing the latter, and I think that's the right way to go.
