Glen Sather once again has unloaded another UFA pickup from last summer when he traded the utterly useless Donald Brashear to the Thrashers, along with another feckless UFA pickup from two summers ago Patrick Rissmiller.

The only player besides Gaborik remaining from Glen Sather's 2009 summer of free agency woe is Brian Boyle.

The Mouth feels that it's kind of ironic that the player who the Rangers received from the Thrashers, Todd White, for the two buffoons mentioned above, might be guy who will eventually send Brian Boyle packing.

Todd White is an older player, but he can supply some scoring occasionally which Boyle can not. White is a 35 year old center who had a ton of injury problems last year, including a dislocated shoulder and knee problems.

White did however score 22 goals two years ago.

The trade was made as a salary dump by the Thrashers, who immediately placed Brashear on unconditional waivers and will buy out the $1.3 million left on the last year of his contract, should he not be claimed. The Thrashers cleared about $850,000 in cap room with this deal.

For the Rangers this was basically a good riddance to bad garbage deal for a player that might or might not be up with the big club this year.

The Mouth feels that if Todd White has an impressive camp, and John Tortorella's first impression is a good one, we might be seeing another 2009 UFA in Brian Boyle shipped off or demoted and Todd White playing in his place.

  • gun I am glad to hear that, it helps me gain some insight on a guy I know zero about. I value all your guys opinions and cant wait to evaluate the guy myself. I hope training camp get here quick !

  • Todd White is one season removed from a 73 point season, including 12 thats right peachy 12 powerplay goals. No way this guy is the 4th line center. If he is healthy I predict him to be the #1 center. He played with Kovalchuk and he can play with Gaborik too. Wait did I just hear that he played with gaborik already while they were on the Wild ?

  • @lextalionis2001 wow somebody has found my stash of ranger Kool-aid I had from last year ! I hope you are right, but I cant see a 35 year old guy who may or may not be breaking down putting up those numbers or logging those kind of major minutes. So as of now you are saying the Rangers got a #1 center for Huggy Bear and Patrick Rissmiller ?? I think you are right on the #1 center part, but for the Hartford Wolf Pack :)

  • @lextalionis2001 Let hope we get the player you predict, i think we really got to see this guy up close and personal to assess. You hear from Thrash fans he rode Kovy and Little's coattails and then you hear from an Ottawa fan he is a solid second line center if healthy. It's a good pick up either way, the fact we got anything serviceable for those 2 bums is a miracle.

  • "Well he can hit an empty net... that's a lot more than some Rangers can do." - sad but true.

  • Hey Mouth... as someone stuck in this one horse town of Ottawa, Ont. , I had many years to watch Todd White develop. I actually like this pickup, especially if it allows us to dump that bum Brashear - (I'll never forgive Sather for letting that clown put on the Rangers blue). White is a solid third line player (second line depending on how bad the Rangers lineup is this year) who has some good hockey sense, and plays hard. If he can stay healthy, he will definitely help us out.

  • he is also a very solid PK guy

  • My reasoning is that he was good enough to skate with Kovalchuk when he (white) was 33. Assuming he rehabbed properly I don't see THAT much of a dropoff in 2 years considering last year was a write off. Could I be wrong ? hell yeah. Am I wrong ? probably. But NYR could do A LOT worse than to have him lineup next to Marion Gaborik next season

  • Eddie, i dare u to play my Islander rap on Banter Wednesday
