There is North America (Canada, US, Mexico, central America, etc) and South America (Brazil, Columbia, etc) that can together be referred to as the Americas, Pan-America, or even just America.
The USA is the United States of America (states united within the American continents) but yes, commonly referred to as America. Calling NA and SA "America" is not wrong...
