Hehe yea, yea this game was so incredibly difficult... I do remember getting to Hades after lots of hard work, but unable to beat that final dungeon. Meh. Still a very amazing and fascinatingly beautifull game

Don't you need fire in the Forest of Thorns to get to Hydra?

You can run through those red thorns when your character is blinking after being hit. I'll tell you it sure is hell going through those dark areas in Laconia without the staff though.
