Brew and Carrie are correct. However, I would say that "fun" still exists in the music scene...you just have to go to smaller clubs with lesser known bands. With the 3rd wave ska revival in the 90's this kinda fun was everywhere, just not necessarily at stadium shows. If you're in the New Orleans area, check out bands like (regionally semi-famous rock gods) Dash Rip Rock. I'm sure every city has similiar bands.
