The Original Swingabilly..Wily Jim..Danny Gatton on Lap-steel, and.....

Back in the 1980's, in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area, I had the opportunity to get to know and play with some dynamite musicians. Before I left the area for the West, I got the idea to attempt a recording in the style of the late 1930's Western-Swing outfits. Here are a few 60 second excerpts from the CD, the results of two recording sessions in the Winter/Spring of 1989.

For the real Danny Gatton fans and appreciators out there, this may be a bit of a teaser. Danny wasn't featured any more or less than any of the other guys in the sessions. But damn, he sure contributed some great leads and fills, and so appropriate to the style I was after! Seems like I'm still finding lap-steel "comments" he added to the mix, which I hadn't caught before. Danny played Lap-steel and Lap-Tele on 9 of the 12 songs on the album.
