From ArtistsNetwork.TV: Lee Hammond demonstrates how to achieve lifelike portraits through smooth blending and gradual tonal changes. She shows you how to create subtle gradation changes, and shading of a sphere for more realism in your drawings. You'll learn what tools to use and how to use them for good results. • Fabulous! Lee Hammond is one of my favorite sketch artists, and her techniques are wonderful. I hope they decide to release more "how to" videos from Lee. She has a wa of explaining things that makes it very easy to understand.

  • I've bought a few of her books and learnt sooo much, she is an amazing artist.

  • I love the technique

  • My high school art teacher forbade us to smudge on submission of our first assignment, because in his opinion, it looks messy. I'm intrigued to find out, after four years of listening to him talk about his opinions as if they were "art rules," that smudging is in fact a very legitimate technique used by many very good artists. Ironically though, his lessons have stuck, and I still don't smudge to this day. I think I partially agree with him, though that's just my opinion.

  • If for some weird reason you can't find tortillons, you can make them, just google for instructions. Otherwise, I've used Q-tips in a pinch.

  • Wow!! I don't think ppl realize how much pencil control it takes to do what she just did, she basically created a blend value that u would see after the using a tool but she did it freehanded!! If you are even half serious about art then u will really be able to appreciate this

  • I want to be an artist .. I have a long way

  • @OriginalDrJenn Thanks finally someone replies :)

  • @super0chick I am hoping for the same thing, that she'll do the crayon demo. Most colored pencil techniques work but I'd love to see her doing it for whatever techniques that I might be missing. The book is wonderful, have it on my NookColor and hard copy.

  • @putthisonmytab There are two types of Bristol, available by many makers, you're gonna want Plate Bristol as it's smoother but Vellum Bristol would work too.

  • YES! I love how you're using a mechanical pencil! Every single art teacher I've ever had HATES mechanical pencils (but I used them anyway >:D)

  • Hi, Love your techniques. Could you please do one on drawing with crayons?
