NC* A004: Wonder Boy (SMS) Review

This is a review for Wonder Boy on the Sega Master System. Wonder Boy on the Sega Master System was also ported to the NES as the game Adventure Island, though there are many differences. Adventure Island on the NES was further developed as its own series, while Wonder Boy later became a fantasy action/adventure sidescrolling video game.

I've only seen a small clip on youtube and it looks like it could be fun. Nintendo usually delivers when they want to so I plan to check it out.

Great review, you give some really good points (the sudden shifts in control style needed to complete the game are something I hadn't really considered before). I must say though, I adore this game, and I love the edge-of-your-seat slippiness of the controls. When you finally have your strategy for the tougher levels down, my feeling of satisfaction on completing them is duly increased. Challenging, but not overbearingly so. Still one of my most frequently played SMS titles.

@neverchris It is slippery yes, but I find the controls are way tighter then in Adventure Island. I can barely get half way through AI, and I grew up playing it. I just got Wonder Boy a few months ago, and I beat it on day one.

galera'm from Brazil, has zeroed wonder boy, the game and very good, but very digio controls are slippery, you have to be very abildade able to finish it ... well that's my opinion, the master system and a thousand times better

You might be interested to know that Hudson basically stole the game. It wasn't really a shake hands and agree deal, they pretty much underhanded sega to make Adventure Island, but it wasn't 'illegal' per se.
