The luminol in the plastic jar reacts (is oxidised) with the hydrogen peroxide, this gives off the blue light. The sodium hydroxide proivides a suitable alkaline solution and the potassium hexacyanoferrate acts as a catalyst.

The plastic cup on the left contains a solution of water (2 test tubes), sodium hydroxide (1 ml) and luminol (a small spoon tip).

The jar contains a solution of potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) (a spoon tip), hydrogen peroxide (2 ml) and water (2 test tubes).
