1971 was the year Labatts' (and all the others) customer base got an increase when the legal drinking age in Canada was lowered to 18 from 21. This ad was probably produced when the minimum drinking age was still 21, and going by that, it would make the youngest of them only three or so years away from their Canada Pension/Social Security.
