This gloriously romantic piece of music was composed for the film "The Gadfly" (1955), and was also used as the theme for "Reilly, Ace of Spies" (1983) with "music composed and arranged by Harry Rabinowich", but with no mention whatsoever of Shostakovich, the true composer...

  • Thank you so much for this information, part of my work requires I do research on Classical Music for my program, and your posting was just wonderful. Shostakovich is one of my favorite composers. I was also very impressed with your Mildred Bailey posting such very beautiful music. This music makes my day.

  • @jackdog1able Thanks for your kind remarks - I'm glad the info was a help. He's my favourite composer - greatest of the 20th century (including Mahler) in my humble op - but as you've already noticed I have a very eclectic taste - possibly TOO varied!!

  • I tried to post a direct link, but stupid YouTube doesn't let you.

  • @MrSwifts31 You'd think with the current technological advances sites like Google, Facebook or YouTube would work better than they do. AND they're always changing things around which can be very confusing!!

  • Thank You so much for this.

It is so much better than the usual offerings on YouTube.

    The pictures especially were delightful.

  • @MrSwifts31 Thanks for your comment - have a better video-making program now, so there could have been some improvements! Thanks also for the link - a very nice pic of the great man when young which I hadn't seen before. For me he was the greatest 20th Century composer - bar none (including Mahler!).

  • My apologies if you have seen this before, but I thought you might like it? put findagrave onto google

and enter Shostakovich,to see his grave.

  • @suzearl Thanks you! Have a new video-making program which could have made this more interesting and (possibly) more sophisticated!

  • Wonderful video!
