Excerpt of President Obama's speech:
he key to meeting these challenges -- to improving our health and well-being, to harnessing clean energy, to protecting our security, and succeeding in the global economy -- will be reaffirming and strengthening America's role as the world's engine of scientific discovery and technological innovation. And that leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today, especially in those fields that hold the promise of producing future innovations and innovators. And that's why education in math and science is so important.
Now the hard truth is that for decades we've been losing ground. One assessment shows American 15-year-olds now rank 21st in science and 25th in math when compared to their peers around the world. And this isn't news. We've seen worrying statistics like this for years. Yet, time and again, we've let partisan and petty bickering stand in the way of progress. And time and again, as a nation, we've let our children down.
So I'm here and you are here because we all believe that we can't allow division and indifference to imperil our position in the world. It's time for all of us -- in Washington and across America -- to take responsibility for our future.
And that's why I'm committed to moving our country from the middle to the top of the pack in science and math education over the next decade. To meet this goal, the Recovery Act included the largest investment in education in history while preventing hundreds of thousands of educators from being fired because of state budget shortfalls. Under the outstanding leadership of Arne Duncan, we've launched a $4 billion Race to the Top fund, one of the largest investments in education reform in history.

@drbayoms So you're saying Abraham Lincoln didn't do a great job? He not only freed the Slaves, he kept the Union from falling apart. If it wasn't for him, The US would be 43 States. (Ironic xD) And you need to recognize all the things every President did. All the Presidents, including Obama, did good things. But you don't get remembered for what Good things you did. You are only Trampled for the things you do wrong. Just like in Work life, School Life, Home life, and Everyday life.

You need another Ronald Reagan? Congratulations, you got another Ronald Reagan. A corporate controlled goon who has not a clue what he is doing. The problems you are experiencing today is due to the Alzheimer's ridden brain of that idiot Reagan. You want to return to an era that caused the very problems you face today? What a dumbass. I hope you get a chance to meet old Ronny very soon. Hopefully he recognizes you.

Yeah, because the last 43 guys before this guy did such a great job. Why don't you take the time to see when exactly that gap in Math and Science started. It might surprise you.

I Personally Agree With The Ronald Reagan Thing. But Sadly Obama Is All We Got. And Cuba's Full of a horrible theiving Government. Sadly Though, USA May Suck, But Its The Best out There... But Since were only People, We Won't Make A Difference To The Government without Running For President. So we just need To Accept What We Have Now. Until A New President Is Elected.

Corrupt congressmen who take bribes, an unqualified, inexperienced man-child obambi, bloated federal bureaucracies, over-taxation, Marxist policies doesn't sound like the US to me. Why don't you leave and go to Cuba if you and obami's ilk want to drastically change (Change we can live with?) this great country. We need another Ronald Reagan and limited constitutional government. (Dude).

@mmcintee Hey chump, the science of global warming is a lie and a hoax, haven't you been keeping up with the news??? Did you know that world temps (even though they cook the books) haven't risen since 1998??? Why would you believe their junk science??? CO2 has risen since 1998, but temperatures HAVE NOT. How can you refute this basic empirical evidence????? Do you think burning fossil fuels is like a nuclear reaction? CO2 is a trace gas that humans exhale....it's not a pollutant moron.

You really don't understand science do you? Do you understand how molecule of hydrogen-- the same element you find in water-- can be used to blow up a city as the US did to Japan in WWII? Size doesn't matter. Please present facts here.
