Interventional cardiologist Robert Applegate, MD, discusses cardiac catheterization at Wake Forest Baptist Health (WFBH) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
WFBH is home to a hybrid cardiac catheterization lab where surgeons can perform integrated surgical and catheterization procedures.
Dr. Applegate also discusses radial artery catheterization, where a patient is treated through an artery in the wrist as opposed to an artery in the leg. This procedure generally is considered safer and is more comfortable for the patient.
Those patients are then transferred to the Radial Lounge where they can recover sitting up, watching television or, with their families by their side.
