Even a bunch of cruisers and destroyers should have been able to hold off the Tirpitz given the timid nature of the Kreigsmarine. And heavy units could be vectored in meanwhile. The Kreigsmarine wouldn't risk torpedo or even minor damage to their last real battleship lest she was gobbled up by subsequent concentration of allied capital ships.

My dad was U.S. Navy Armed Guard, he served on the SS Bayou Chico, SS Lafayette, SS Egbert Benson,SS John W. Powell and the SS Chadd Ford from 1942-1946 in the European theater and the Asiatic theater.

They were too slow even to catch "KMS Tirptiz", but "USS Washington" indeed could have pounched Tirptiz good if 1 vs 1, bu certainly not "HMS Duke Of York"

Fuck, HMS "Duke of York" & USS "Washington" were far enough to destroy the "Tirpitz"!!! Why they didn't do it???

If the Tirpitz had radar controlled guns,the convoy wouldn't even see him.
