Here is Actor/Vaudeville Comic Edward M. Favor on a 1901 Zonophone. There are very few early introduced etched Zonophone related records on Youtube so I thought I would post one so you could see one and hear the record. This is Favor introducing the Song and himself for the Zonophone. The Zonophone record and Disc Machines were started by Frank Seaman considered a shadowy figure in the early days of the talking Machine industry. He had originally worked for Emile Berliner the inventor of the Gramophone, but left Berliner and formed his own Company to market these etched label records beginning in 1899. These early etched label zonophones were made up to 1903, and the Company was then bought out by Victor. The Talking Machine is a 1907 Victor type III. I have adjusted the RPMs downward on this record to compensate for the slower speeds of this early era. Even with this Favor sings some of these phrases exceptionally fast (probably because of the limited time frame of a 7" record), and it is difficult to make out some of the words. But you folks who enjoy these very early recorded sound Icons from the earliest times should enjoy it despite of this.

  • victrola man, do you have any early records like this either zonophone, berliner, victor or any other early lable for sale or that you can trade

  • @kirtley2010 Unfortunately not presently. I am a collector not a dealer, and only really sell or trade records when I acquire extras. These particular records, as I am sure you are aware, are rather uncommon but they do surface quite frequently on ebay and other on line auction sites. I would suggest you put in a permanent search on ebay, that way you will emailed automatically each time one comes up for sale.

  • Favor is the greatest!

  • Agreed ! As far as his expressive greatness on every record he made in those early days, he is absolutely without equal. Favor was one of a kind, no one comes even close. Even his intros are worth the price of the Record !!

  • You wouldn't by chance have a copy of Ed singing "Hello Central, Give Me Heaven would you? I used to own this record years ago. I believe it was pressed/cut in 1904 single sided bakelite and it was lost in storage...

  • @victrolaman Right on!

  • I am never disappointed by your presentations!

  • Another great Favor recording!

Youtube's really turning into a great place to hear these rare early records.

    Thank for posting it.

  • Nice. Good sound to be so old.
