Just picked this one up 2 days ago. I got this one free because it was non-running. The guy who had it said that it quit on him while he was in the water and didn't want it anymore. When I got it all the head bolts were missing and the wiring was all screwed up. One hour of playing with it & it runs! The reason it quit was a fuel line sucking air - fixed it with a $1 hose clamp!

  • hey, any advice, the boat we have now came with a 40 evinrude, probably early 70s late 60s, just wonderin, if we got it running, how much could we sell it for?

  • All depends on the mechanical and cosmetic condition of the motor and your location. Is it electric or manual shift? Controls & wiring? All of this comes into play .....

  • i bet the guy who gave it to you is kicking himself now

  • Actually I traded a junk 15 hp for it - the 15 needed a lot of work and parts - so I feel like I got it for free. The guy I got the 55 from lives a couple of hours from me - pretty sure that he thought it was un-fixable....

  • haha, we got a evinrude 55hrs 1979, right now it runs like a top, but the stator that was on it was all cracked up, now it runs good with a new stator, that motors seen alot of thing, skidding down a highway on the back of a boat, the sgeg thing is al worn down, and it blew up because the people who borrowed it forgot to put oil in the fuel, it blew the hoob right off into the water, we need to get a new hood, imm pretty shure its bored out to like 65 or 70
