I 24 GRANA nascono a metà degli anni '90, anni caratterizzati da un grande fermento sociale e culturale, accompagnato dal movimento musicale che trova la sua migliore espressione nelle posse e nel dub.
Il nome del gruppo si ispira alla moneta in uso nel regno di Ferdinando d'Aragona, moneta povera, a sottolineare tanto il legame con la tradizione artistica partenopea quanto la vicinanza a una cultura che al denaro dà poco valore.
L'attuale combo si forma definitivamente nel 1996 quando, a Francesco, Nando e Renato, si unisce Giuseppe, portando con sé l'ispirazione psychedelic-blues che si affianca alla propensione rock-new wave dei primi.
La musica dei 24 GRANA trae spunto e si ispira a molti stili, dal dub al rock, dal pop alla new wave, dalla musica elettronica al blues e alla psichedelia, con la canzone d'autore a fare da trait d'union. A rendere difficile l'inquadramento della band in uno stile ben definito è la pulsione al cambiamento, il rifiuto di presentarsi uguali a se stessi che contraddistingue i 24 GRANA fin dai loro esordi; se si volesse riassumere la caratteristica del gruppo, si potrebbe parlare di meltin'-pop, parafrasando l'idea anglosassone di commistione e integrazione tra spinte culturali diverse.
Da sempre l'attività live è al centro della vita artistica dei 24 GRANA e li ha portati a suonare in molte centinaia di concerti in tutta Italia, ma anche in Europa (Spagna, Francia, Svizzera, Slovenia) e in Giappone.


24 GRANA appeared on the Italian underground scene in the mid 90s, in the period of a great social and cultural ferment. The whole process was accompanied by the musical movement which had found the best way to express it using dub and posse. The name of the band is derived from a coin used in the times of Ferdinando Aragona. The coin didn't have much value and that signifies the bond with the partenopea musical tradition, and the ties to cultural values that placed little significance on money.
The actual band was founded in 1996 when Francesco, Nando and Renato were joined by Giuseppe who brought the psychedelic-blues inspiration which then was mixed with the rock-new wave disposition of the others.
The music of 24 GRANA is inspired by many styles from dub to rock, from pop to new wave, from electronic music to blues and psychedelic music with poetry-song as a connecting-link. It is difficult to find a definition for the style of this group or place it within certain limits as from the very beginning this band stands apart. 24 GRANA is constantly changing as quickly as it rejects styles. To characterize this group one should speak about meltin'-pop paraphrasing the anglosaxon idea of mixture and integration of different cultural impulses.
Live concerts have always been in the center of the artistic life of the 24 GRANA and so the band has performed many hundreds of times all around Italy and also in Europe (Spain, France, Switzerland, Slovenia) and in Japan.
