Drovers outplayed in the loose
Aug 30 2009 Wales On Sunday

Pontypridd 30 Llandovery 21

PONTYPRIDD were comfortable winners, taking maximum points at Sardis Road with four tries to two.

The home forwards were in control throughout and were behind three of the four tries.

Close range line outs and driven mauls brought tries for impressive scrum-half Rhys Downes, hard-working lock Chris Dicomidis and replacement lock Rhys Lloyd.

The Llandovery forwards held their own at the set pieces but were out-played in the loose.

It was 14-8 at half-time, Ponty fly-half Aaron Bramwell kicking three easy penalties but failing to convert Downes try.

Fly-half Cerith Rees kicked two penalties and wing Ifan Evans, with a try, got the Llandovery points, but in the second half it was all Pontypridd.

Sub Kristan Baller snatched the bonus point with a 76th minute try and, although lock Louie Tonkin got a late consolation, the Drovers ended up well beaten.

Pontypridd: Tries R Downes, C Dicomidis, R Lloyd, K Baller Cons A Bramwell (2). Pens A Bramwell (4)

Llandovery: Tries I Evans, L Tonkin Cons D Etteridge Pens C Rees (3).
