They say 4:3 is fullscreen and 16:9 is widescreen, which is a very rough way of putting it.
16:9 or 1.78 is the standard now that TV revolves around more or less, though movies and shows can be shot in all sorts of ratios.

I didnt knew they always cropped 4:3 i thaught it was fullscreen!

Most TV shows these days are made for 16:9, perfect for a 16:9 TV.
-
I hope the 2008 DVD release is on widescreen.

I like Widescreen, as a kid I liked 4:3 because there were no HDTVs in 1998
-
I don't care for the bars, if you pan and scan a movie your ruin what the director tries to tell.
-
I like watching tv when it's 16:9 it is perfect and it isn't quite widescreen or full screen it's a win win for all widescreen and full screen fans

It looks beautiful in wide screen. There's more background to love.
Saying you hate widescreen DVDs is like saying you wish someone would gouge out your left eyeball.

I've always preferred Widescreen over Fullscreen. I remember before HDTVs, a lot of people hated Widescreen because of the two black bars.
The interesting thing about Sleeping Beauty is all Widescreen Home Video Releases of the film before the 2008 Platinum Edition DVD & Blu-Ray Versions featured the film framed at 2:35:1 whereas the film was actually made using the aspect ratio of 2:55:1. Luckily the 2008 Platinum Edition DVD & Blu-Ray featured the film in it's original 2:55:1 aspect ratio.
