Annie Lemieux and Thomas Reeves pre-college recital at Juilliard, December 13 2008, 5 of 7. Eric Ewazen's Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, First Movement.
I listened to one recording before I learned it. I prefer not to use recordings when learning pieces. It's been a few years since I was first learning this so when I go back and listen to someone else's recording I find it much different. If you want to get a sense of the piece, I would recommend Chris Gekker and the composer playing on the CD "Music for the Soloists of the American Brass Quintet and Friends by Eric Ewazen". Sorry for the long reply. Good luck!
were you at ITG in 2007 at UMass Amherst?

Yep. I played in the senior division of the youth competition.

This is a tad on the fast side for my taste, but brilliantly played. Congratulations.

it's a little fast for my taste too. I think we were both a bit anxious but we managed to pull it off. Glad you enjoyed it though!

Did you use any recordings while working on this piece?
