Why did she hang on for ten years to the rights to this great play without filming it? She was too busy getting funding for "The Mirror Has Two Faces"?

As much as I love Barbra and have followed her career since day 1 she speaks with forked tongue and insincerity about turning this play into a movie. It's been 25 years since the initial impact of this play hit off-broadway and now 25 years later an equally brilliant revival on Broadway. So I would ask Barbra why the hesitation especially when the subject matter hits home.

Over 20 years since this, and the film is still not yet a "reality".

@keilitzb ... Not entirely fair. Barbra has been trying to turn THE NORMAL HEART into a movie since 1985. She was foiled by timing (actor availability), financing (studios willing to pay), and Mr. Kramer himself (whether he would write the screenplay solo, or share credit). There have been TWO Broadway productions since, both getting good reviews. Streisand put together the current Mark Ruffalo/Julia Roberts casting, then Kramer bailed. Can't say she didn't try ... HARD. That's Showbiz.
