Mariko's guinea pigs are very spoilt. In this video, she adds to their empire with a second 2m x 2m playpen. She gives you a quick demo of how it is done.
Mariko designed and built this all by herself, without power tools. Materials cost her around AU$130.
She built it over 2 weeks, and filmed an hour of footage. Appreciate her effort to bring you the best 20 minutes in double speed.
For those who don't know, Mariko has 5 guinea pigs. Kramer gets free range of the garden, because he's a dog therian. Or something. The other two boys are kept separately because they fight with him. Until she built the second playpen, she had to rotate the boys and the girls to give them all a fair go on the grass. But now they all get to go out every day, all day long. LUXURY.
But seriously, guinea pigs should not be kept in tiny cages. THIS is the life they want. Grass! Space! Girls to whistle at! Boys to show off to! Destroyers to squeak-demand food from!
Oh, just one tip. If anyone does make something like this, always make sure the ground at the edges is flat. Mariko made the mistake of putting one on uneven ground once, when the boys still had free-range privileges before they assaulted Kramer. They found a small pit at the edge of the fence and managed to squeeze under! It was a tight fit, she could see where they squirmed soil out of the way, but they got through. Luckily, the girls probably didn't get pregnant (it's been 8 weeks, they don't look too fat), but that's something to watch out for.
Ah, I'm such a genius :p I should have been an engineer. Yup, but that stuff's too dry for me.
