Durante los últimos cuatro siglos han ocupado todo el centro del actual Kenia.
gún la tradición oral Kikuyu, proceden de Gikuyu, el fundador de la etnia. Éste tenía una esposa llamada Mumbi que dio a luz nueve hijas. Estas hijas son el origen de los nueve clanes familiares actuales (muhiriga). Según esta tradición, los hombres se cansaron de su tratamiento por las mujeres y se rebelaron, de donde nacería un décimo clan (pero se cuentan sólo nueve y se considera que trae mala suerte hablar de este décimo clan. Esta leyenda parece representar un cambio en la historia del matriarcado a organización patriarcal como ocurrió con otros pueblos Bantús.

there are two kinds of people I admire concerning their language! Kikuyus and luos. These guys do not forget their language no matter where they go. You go to boston you find several kikuyu churches preached fully in Kiuk. You go to texas, omera everywhere. Maasai children born outside the tribe do not survive the culture. Even the father speaks english to the kids totally destroying the identity of their own. shame on you!

Many of the songs are not original Kikuyu rhythm, some may even be from coast, verify content since some of the tribe consumes aren't Kikuyu's

I agree with you General lidibabu , that Kikuyu Traditions are dying out and needs to be revived urgently , . Some of the music did not match the KIikuy kind of beats
