Yes I did just as common roofing mechanic language. I have always referred to them as just water eyes or water grooves on standard strip 3 tabs, dragons teeth with architectural shingles.

Cool video. Informative. Ever hear about 'Flex Seal'? It's new, won't fix everything, but it's pretty good. Thanks for posting the video

Look at the water eyes and the other shoddy part is that they used a 3 tab on an Architectural Roof. What a shame!!!!

@jvhamby5 DId you just call the keyways "water eyes?" Cool, never heard that before.

I have seen shoddy jobs like that many times over the past 21 years. I am a Certified Roofer with GAF since 97 and have been Owens Corning, Manvllle, and Mulehide Certified. The Problem is that you do not have to be trained to be a roofer. My opinion is that Plumbers, Electricians and HVAC Contractors have to know the job. In Georgia we have big names that are just ran by executives that do not even know how to lay out a roof much less repair a roof. Findley Roofing comes to mind.

@jvhamby5 In Maryland, we must be licensed and bonded -- and that kind of stuff still happens -- mostly when unsuspecting homeowners hire unlicensed folks ...

Licensed and certified does not mean nothing if the roofer has no morals. I was ripped off by certified professionals a couple of times.

@ventureelect Very true. Make sure you get references, check them out, and try to get the contractor to take before, during, and after pictures ... and don't pay the final amount until you see the pics.
Don't know how it is up there in Canada, but in most states here, if there's a problem at least you get some level of recourse if the contractor is licensed and bonded.
Thanks! and better luck next time.
