The American President (Know the Difference)

The America People want leadership. And in the absence of genuine leadership, they will listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They're so thirsty for it, they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand. We've had Presidents who were beloved, who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand, because they're thirsty. They drink it because they don't know the difference.

Michael J. Fox is just awesome in this movie, and I feel so sorry for him b/c he's so put-upon by all the other characters.

That's probably because his character comes off as a pushy prick at times but I agree with you that he did an awesome job with it.

So many people don't understand this. Ironically it's the ones that tout themselves as "patriots," always screaming "Love it or leave it," that seem to least understand it.

When Bush was pres, you were a "traitor" for questioning him. And with Obama, when Bruins goalie Tim Thomas didn't visit him, the supposedly liberal New England screamed "anti-American."

Doesn't anyone else think that Sheen, Douglas and Fox look alike in this film?  It crosses my mind every time I watch this film.

Surreal seeing Martin Sheen here but not as the President. West Wing is funny that way.

No, the idea is to point out the stupidity of the public. One can not be disillusioned unless you are illusioned in the first place. It is easy to pull the wool over the eyes of a sheep.

Ignorant people vote in Tyrannts who say, "I will save you." We have to stick to the principals of our constitution or we will ruin our country. It may be too late. People have been drinking the sand(money printed out of thin air by the banks at the expense of the poor and honest). This is why our country is in trouble.
