Sadly, this was after the dementia had kicked in: for the whole length of this video, Feynman thought he was teaching a class on Quantum mechanics.

Well, the problem is that some things are just darned hard to test, especially originality. Feynman and Einstein (he was not considered the best student, especially in math) were original thinkers. How can you test for something that has never been thought of before! I qualified for Mensa. You needed a 66 on a test called the MAT to get in. I got a 75 (got me into grad school!) but could never see the point of joining Mensa-never was a joiner.

It's funny, isn't it? That people are so much more inclined to believe IQ tests, and if you're associated with Mensa -- or not -- to be indicative of intelligence. More so than actual accomplishments. People can get a near perfect SAT score, but it doesn't really mean anything. It fails in comparison to Feynman.

Methinks you're overly harsh in criticizing parts of the establishment. While he did not get into Columbia, he did go to MIT and Princeton hardly 'second rate' institutions. He was hardly anti-establishment-after grad school, he joined the Manhattan project, then became a professor. Mensa is just a private club-he could have joined, I am sure, if he was interested. Genius, like Enistein and Fenyman, often don't fit in well-they see things differently.

Feynman is the greatest anti-establishment figure of the 20th century? Because he was denied from Columbia University, although he completed his B.S in MIT and Phd in Princeton? Even though he won the Nobel Prize and worked on various committees? And how accurate do you suppose those IQ tests were?

I think it's great that you appreciate what a great man Feynman was, but I think you're molding him into your world view, rather then appreciating the way he actually was.
