This is a tutorial of how I create seamless loops of music. When I create game music (http://soundtrack.imphenzia.com) loops are an essential part of ensuring a game distribution size is kept small and it's also cheaper to license short segments of music.

In this tutorial I use Cubase 5.5 and Sound Forge but it should be possible to use most sequencers and audio editing software.

The steps include:
1) How to export the audio from the sequencer properly
2) How to crop out the seamless loop (ensuring that trailing audio such as reverb and decay are not lost)
3) How to remove any clicking at the loop points

I'll also post a link soon to my blog where will make a Sound Forge script available that crops out and fades audio properly to make a seamless loop.

  • Can you recommend a freeware program that does seamless loops? I have nature sound audio I'd like loop over so I can use it as continous background noise with only a 15 minute track.

  • @UHFStation1 Hi - maybe Audacity will offer the same tools to make it seamless. Keep in mind that my method is aimed for music where you can repeat a piece 3 times and then crop out the center third so it will not work for any samples not created in such a way.

  • This soundtrack is absolutely great! Really good job. Is it possible to listen to a complete version of this?

  • @CaseyRyanmail Hi - thanks. This music only exists in a number of small loops for games - and the particular section in this tutorial is "Fantasy RPG - Intense Battle Full Loop" on my official website. The entire cubase project with the different loops can be heard on the youtube video that I've added as a response to this video.

I'm impressed :) It's really as good as Commandos 2 or Crysis soundtracks. Very professional!

  • @CaseyRyanmail Thank you very much - I'm happy with that comparison =)
