Coffs Harbour City Council has outdated laws for pet owners letting their dogs bark for as long as they please. You can also own as many dogs as you like in this town in the residential areas.
It's no wonder this town progresses at such a slow rate compared to that of many other areas.
Dinosaurs still roam in Coffs Harbour. What would the tourists visiting this town be thinking you'd have to say?

  • You do know that the laws are the same statewide don't you? i'm a dog lover, but a bark hater too. It can drive you nuts, but it would be better to give the suggestions for measures to contain the dogs in a place where they don't have as much stimulus for barking, or at least where it is heard less by the neighbourhood. Do you know such measures yourself? Maybe get info from DogsNSW to put in the letterbox - i know direct communication can be risky.

  • @mantiskf2003 We have nothing against dogs. It’s the irresponsible owners that don’t look after them. We had 8 next door at one stage and then they leave them alone to bark for hours at a time. That gets pretty loud and annoying. It took us 6 years to get the local ranger to take notice and action. It’s still a problem from time to time and the laws need changing state wide to move in line with say Victoria. The laws are different in NSW and you can own as many dogs as you like.

  • @johnnybaustralia so we agree on everything except that there is no particular reason to single out coffs, as the laws are state wide. Like wise while stepping in droppings is annoying, it was never the main reason for the development and later changes in the Companion Animal Act. first it was to reduce dog attacks -it hasn't. Second it was to reduce nuisance barking - it hasn't .

You absolutely should be able to own as many as you can reasonably care for, obviously they aren't.

  • @IIInJeCtIoNsx - I rest my case!

  • i keep a 40kg RSPCA dog to stop the thieves from messing with my wife while i do the night shift in coffs harbour. All my neighbours dogs bark all day and all night but he never says a peep. You should come and see him, He won't bark at you but he may take your leg off!! Dog breeders and owners are the problem mate.

  • @DavisMediaProduction its nothing compared to anywhere i have ever travelled.

  • it seems to me all your breeding is hostility and hatred... while I agree dogs need not bark incessantly and its the owners responsiblity to have them well trained and looked after. Being spiteful like this will get you no where... and afterall, theres more important things going on in the world right!?
