I got word of a light power move, coming south from Liberty. EJ&E 658 was in the lead. With track work going on all over the Leithton Sub, I was going to be kept posted of where it was, pretty much at all times. It turns out that 658 was all alone, as it slowly rolled down the siding (Main 1), in Crest Hill. Nice crew on this one. 658's paint seems to have been touched up a bit. Looks nice.

As I was driving further into town, I heard M338 receiving a track authority, to head east out of the yard. I set up, along Route 52 and waited for its arrival. CN 5689, 5539 and 5697 struggle with their monster manifest, as they battle the hill, in Joliet.

As I was driving through downtown, BNSF 700 west called UD Tower, looking to head west across the diamond. Warbonnets are neat to see, so I set up in a parking lot, along Scott Street. 700 was granted permission right away, so it wasn't long before he showed up. BNSF 700 and 5412 are powering this autorack train through Joliet.

Getting close to the timeframe of L CHI102's arrival, I headed into Lockport to hang out for a while. An eastbound Z train was passing through, as I arrived. After the Z cleared, I crossed the tracks and saw a westbound headlight. Leading is BNSF 5661, an AC4400CW. Following 5661 is BNSF 5939, an ES44AC.

A while later, an eastbound Z train passed through, headed for Willow Springs. BNSF 7429, 7216, 7427 and 5083 lead the way.

Another Z train, this one a westbound from Willow Springs, rolls through, powered by BNSF 7430, 5418 and 7447. GEVO's are dominating everything.

Running right behind the previous Z, a stack train from Corwith Yard in Chicago, takes it easy as it advances towards UD Tower in Joliet. Four new BNSF ES44DC's, 7831, 7828, 7833 and 7832, all running elephant style, are in charge. While I'd MUCH rather have the previous owners of the 7800 series, I'll take what I can. At least they look good....for now.

After the two previous westbounds cleared Joliet and were on the fast track, westbound, the L CHI102 had clear tracks all the way into the BNSF Yard in Joliet. Another delightful EMD consist today. BNSF SD40-2's 6936 and 6933 (Bluebonnet) lead GP38-2 2005.

On my way into Joliet, from Lockport, I heard Amtrak 21 call out the signal at Stateville, so I headed to Ohio Street. A couple minutes later, the southbound Texas Eagle rounded the corner and proceeded up to UD Tower.

102 only had about twenty minutes of work in Joliet. Therefore, it wasn't very long before he was ready to go west. He quickly did his back-up move, called UD Tower and got out of town. A BNSF Z train got the OK to cross the diamond and passed by me, minutes before the local did. Nice to see the Heritage 1 Dash 9 in the lead. BNSF 1080 leads 7634. Just west of the station, we see the trio of EMD's working hard to get their train up to speed. Who needs B40-8W's?

L516 was about fifteen minutes from Joliet, headed west. I headed to Route 52 and set up. Just as I was arriving, I heard the train hit the detector at M.P. 6, doing 45 MPH. Right after that, I heard him blowing for Briggs Street. Literally, right after that, he rounded the corner and was on me before I knew it. CN 5631 leads a long (for L516), 67 car train towards Joliet Yard, at a quick pace. Nice crew on this train as well.

  • @parachuter11 Chances are they were both Diner-Lounge cars.

  • That's alot of action for one day, nice job!

  • I like the Texas Eagle video. I watched it come in today from Chicago to Joliet Union station. It had two dining cars instead of a diner car and an observation/lounge car. Have you ever seen this before during your video captures where the observation car was replaced by another dining car? Great shots by the way of all the trains!

  • AWESOME VIDEO!
