Battle of Baker's Creek

In 2003 the small community of Lucaston opposed the logging of 1000 acres in their valley by the billion dolar logging company, Gunns Ltd. After 7 arrests and more than 3 months of protests the logging company only destroyed one small section of the 1000 acres. We won. Then in 2004, Gunns Ltd sued Adam Burling and Lou Geraghty as part of the infamous Gunns 20 case. With the trial set for Feb 2010, Baker's Creek is set for a new battle.

But these poor blokes that do the wood chopping arn't to blame, their bosses tell them too. So why don't the greenies fight the actual company board instead of the poor truck drivers and stuff. And how come greenies always have dreadlocks and stuff, maybe you lot should start some sort of huge enterprise like Gunns and buy out Gunns and then you will be no worries.

okay okay settle down mate, i didn't say that I want the forests taken away. I love tasmania forests and regularly trek down to the airwalk and huon valley because I love it. I'm just saying, I don't know why they have to be such idiots in protesting... just some wood they are cutting. ultimately I would like to see plantations on the mainland, or even better, china etc where they have monsoons and they can forest there.

So Ben, you obviously don't value the future of your kids or the natural environment. Loggers are a dying breed anyway and mechanisation takes away their jobs and Gunns owns every piece of Tasmanian forest. You are deluding yourself if you think these jobs will be there in 5 years time. Its time to reskill & take up a different job, just like 1000's of Aussie workers have had to do before. Just because you cut down trees doesn't mean your job should be protected above say manufacturing..
