Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women, but local health providers are working to make the odds of surviving much higher. Two sessions on providing care to women who are at risk for or living with ovarian cancer were offered at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse on Wednesday June 10, 2009. Experts explained the latest developments in detection and treatment to nurses and nurse practitioners. Attendees also learned about the importance of taking family history into account and what to look for when diagnosing ovarian cancer.
Organizers say they're trying to give out as much information as possible to fight the disease.
"The more awareness that patients and their healthcare providers have of those symptoms and what to be looking for the better shot we have at diagnosing it early," Dr. Mary Cunningham of GNY Oncology of CNY said.
The event was funded by the State Health Department.

  • That's right! Detecting the symptoms may help women to fight the ovarian cancer early. The information is very recent and that's great for patients. Physicians from Crouse Hospital may also like to know about other proposals against Ovarian Cancer, they can visit Symposier site where they can find relevant videos about this.
