Stage 3, The "Color Poster"
In this stage of the painting, the general colors are scrubbed in with thin paint with no mediums used. This establishes a rough hue pattern and light-to-dark relationships. The small shifts of hue in this stage provide for some color vibration used in the next stages.
This is the most psychologically challenging stage of the painting to me. The palette is premixed at the beginning to aid in feeling like there's a cogent plan to stick to, but it's very easy to second-guess oneself at this point. It's a fine balance between not creating any unfixable errors, and establishing a solid foundation for the next stages.

@achillesian wellllllll, yes, in a way. but to avoid overworking, I like to make the process as straight a shot to the finish line as possible.

isnt everything fixable? blending/wiping with oil, or painting over dry paint with acrylic?
