Elizabeth Taylor - Eddie Fisher - by Richard Bassett

Eddie Fisher had been Mike Todd's best and closest friend. Mike's death hit him as hard as it did Dame Elizabeth Taylor. Through the ghost of Mike Todd, Eddie and Elizabeth were drawn together. When they were together, Mike Todd seemed to be alive, as well. The catch was Eddie's marriage to actress (and America's sweetheart) Debbie Reynolds. Though Fisher stated that it was a loveless marriage, when he divorced her to marry Elizabeth...it caused a national scandal. Eddie was totally devoted to Elizabeth and had been for years. But, Elizabeth knew that she had married him for the wrong reasons. When she met Richard Burton while filming 'Cleopatra' in Rome, they chemistry was spellbinding and Richard & Elizabeth fell passionately in love. This time, an international scandal emerged and Eddie Fisher could do nothing but watch his wife slowly drift into the arms of Richard Burton. He would love Elizabeth Taylor forever. He would never love another.

Don't want to be argumentative but , Dungaree Doll is wrong. Elisabeth does not only have her dogs...she has children and grandchildren who love her...and any way whats wrong with dogs loving you ?

Goodness me, there's a lot of venom towards Liz Taylor here. It's easy to see her as some sort of temptress, but Eddie left his wife and family freely and suffered the consequences. Liz and Debbie have put it behind them, and are still enjoying flourishing careers and full lives, and good on them!

I grew up as a child with the original "Star Wars" triology movies and never really knew(untill recently reading tribute magazines about late actress,Elizabeth Taylor) actress Carrie Fisher's father is this man,Eddie Fisher(Carrie Fisher played "Princess Lea",Luke Skywalker's twin sister and also the daughter of dark lord of the Sith,"Darth Vader").

@richardbassett1956 I just heard a clip by Eddie Fisher with Larry King. Eddie said that Liz was the love of his life. I think we can see from some photos that there was a strong love between the two.

Debbie was very sweet and charming and deserved nothing but the bes! eddie is scum he might have had talent but a rotten and cheap personality will get you nowhere , elizabeth was alot of things and being fickle was one of them he should have seen and probably did see it coming that her options are always open

It's interesting that both Debbie Reynolds' and Elizabeth Taylor's careers soared and Eddie's sunk to the virtual bottom.

Also interesting is the fact that Liz had Debbie with her at her 75th birthday party in Las Vegas. The girls are now long reconciled with one another, and poor Eddie Fisher is lord knows where. He wrote very badly about both of them in his book ---- but I doubt whether either Debbie or Liz care in the least.
